How can I get started?

If you are a new client, you can go to my New Clients page under Appointments to see a list of steps to start counseling.

If you have worked with me before, please go to my page for Returning Clients under Appointments.

How much does counseling cost?

If you would like to use insurance, please go to my Insurance page for details about which insurance companies I can bill through.

If you do not have or cannot use insurance, my standard self pay rate is $130 per session. I do offer a sliding scale for individuals who would experience hardship paying the full rate. Contact me with questions about rates.

Can I use HSA, FSA, or HRA?

Yes, but you will need to check with your insurance company to see if there are special instructions to be sure the payments will be processed correctly. I am happy to work with you to make sure we bill accurately so that your sessions are covered.

Can I use EAP (Employee Assistance Program) Benefits?

Not at this time. If this changes, I will update this page. (Updated 6/28/24)

Do you accept Medicare/Medicaid?

Not at this time. If this changes, I will update this page. (Updated 6/28/24)

What’s the difference between my deductible and co-insurance?

Oh boy - I have certainly learned a lot about insurance along this journey! But rather than taking my word for it, here’s an article that explains the differences.

Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Yes, you can cancel your appointment in your profile in SimplePractice as long as it is more than 24 hours before we are scheduled to meet. If it is less than 24 hours, please message me in SimplePractice.

There is a $75 fee for appointments cancelled within 24 hours without communication with me. If we communicate and there is another appointment scheduled, the first late notice cancellation fee is waived. Going forward, we will work together to find better ways to schedule to prevent late cancellations.

Once you have cancelled an appointment, you can select a new slot to schedule. I will receive your request and accept or decline and send other options.

How often will we meet for counseling?

I like to meet weekly with new clients for a couple of reasons. Regularly scheduled weekly sessions allow us to get to know each other better and help me understand all of your needs.

But more than that, it gives you a chance to get familiar with me and my style. The counseling relationship is a unique one, and for us to work well together, we both need to feel comfortable enough to be open and honest with each other. Meeting weekly allows us to develop this relationship and learn how to communicate best with each other.

If your schedule or financial situation do not allow for weekly sessions, we can meet every other week to begin.

What if I don’t like it, or don’t like you?

It happens! As I said, the counseling relationship is a unique one. And just like you may not get along with everyone you meet at work or at a party, you may not like working with me for any number of reasons.

I am never offended if a client decides not to work with me!

My main concern is your safety - your physical, mental, and emotional safety. If you do not feel like I am the right person to provide this safety for you, I am happy to refer you to a professional counselor nearby who may better fit your needs.

I do suggest we have 4 or 5 sessions together before deciding to switch therapists, but I fully respect your decision if you want to make the change sooner than that.
